Project Guidelines
To
use the Mason Media Lab, MML, faculty/staff/student teams submit project
proposals to the Mason Media Lab Advisory Board. The steps in the process,
from writing the proposal to final project, are the following:

- A packet of information and application materials are available
on-line at [medialab.gmu.edu/packet], at the Mason Media Lab, Johnson
Center, Room 311, or by calling the Production Manager at: 703-993-3988.
- Applicants should schedule a meeting to determine the feasibility
of undertaking and completing a proposed project within the MML. This
session is an orientation meeting to help applicants understand the
technological capabilities and limitations of the MML's resources
for undertaking particular academic or promotional projects.
Project Proposal
- Any user of the MML will submit a completed project application
to the MML advisory board for approval. The MML staff can assist the
user by providing insight on the time and resources needed to complete
the project.
- The MML Advisory Board reviews proposals on a monthly basis.
- Once the MML advisory board has approved the project, the user
in collaboration with MML technical staff and director will complete
a tentative project schedule.
Project Initiation
- New users should meet with the MML staff for a general orientation
to the lab's resources and equipment.
- Project leaders and MML staff need to identify and schedule training
on particular equipment and software.
- Teams will be supplemented with consultants as appropriate to assist
on specific technical tasks
Project Progress and Trouble-shooting
- Project leaders and the MML Director will conduct periodic project
reviews on project progress and technical needs in order to re-adjust
project schedule.
- The MML director will allocate unforeseen technical assistance
and training to teams as appropriate.
- At the end of a project, or minimally at the end of the academic
year, each project will submit a report of progress toward project
completion.
Ownership and Intellectual Property

The University policy on intellectual property, copyright and patents
will apply to all projects completed in the Mason Media Lab.

Credit should be given to George Mason University and the Mason Media
Lab for projects completed at the facility.

A copy of the final presented project will be made available to the MML
library.

Projects will be terminated by the MML Advisory Board for the following:

Lack of progress toward completion
-
Misuse of facilities
-
Inability of the MML to provide adequate resources
